Stroll through Merano
Merano is a famous, elegant South Tyrolean health resort with a historic town
centre, 324 metres above sea-level, in a beautiful setting where three
valleys, the Vinschgau, the Etsch and the Passier, come together.
The unusual geographical location - the town is sheltered to the north
and east by high mountain ranges - is the reason for its mild
Mediterranean climate. This enables a wide variety of colourful,
Mediterranean and sub-tropical plants to thrive in the extensive parks
and promenades of Merano, and its new Botanical gardens. You can admire
wisteria, palms, cypresses, oleanders, cacti, and many other exotic
plants. There are lovely, landscaped, shady walks, totalling over 40
kilometres, in and around Merano. The most famous of these is the
Tappeiner Walk, offering tremendous Alpine views, named after the
doctor who planned it and donated it to the town in 1892.
Meran’s town centre is a
veritable paradise for everyone who loves shopping. There are exclusive
boutiques, trendy jeans outlets, branches of the most famous fashion chains,
gourmet shops, bookshops and jewellers. There is nothing you will not find
here. Just come and see!
